Music in the first scene

In the first scene of this film music plays a key role in describing and showing Davids life and his personality. David is a very professional person and is very good at his job. He is liked by a lot of people but is lonely and sad without others. The opening frame is a long shot of David in a very dark room with bars across the windows. There is also a song playing which is very slow and sounds like sad music. This may portray David as being very sad and lonely as once the music speeds up and is more up-beat he is presenting his speech because he is running for the state senator. The more up-beat part also suggests that David is very happy around other people
